PUPILS at a Birmingham school were left spellbound by the surprise appearance of Harry Potter star Ron Weasley.
There was pandemonium when actor Rupert Grint walked into an
assembly at Bishop Walsh Catholic School in Sutton Coldfield yesterday.
The actor, who is so famous he wears a duck mask to avoid being
spotted in public, was joined by his screen brother Oliver Phelps, from
Sutton, after A-level student Sarah Cotter won a national competition.
Pupils and teachers screamed and cheered as the stars arrived after they were originally told a church leader was visiting.
Sarah said: “It was insane. It was all kept under wraps and none of us knew.
“I was in complete shock, I couldn’t speak. After the question and
answer session I went to another room to have a chat and pictures. It
was amazing.
“They were both lovely. I don’t remember too much about what we
spoke about as it was a bit of a blur, but we chatted about the films.”
The 17-year-old continued: “I entered the competition so long ago
that I forgot about it. I just entered my school’s details and answered a
question about Ron.
“I love Harry Potter, before the last film was released, we did a 26-hour movie marathon.”
The competition was run by supermarket Sainsbury’s.
As well as the visit, every pupil and staff member received a copy
of the DVD of the final instalment of the Potter series, The Deathly
Hallows: Part Two.
The school also received 10,000 vouchers, worth £100,000, of Sainsbury’s shopping.
School head John Farrell said: “It was a great day for Bishop Walsh.
We are really pleased for Sarah, it was a big shock for her.
“Only a few members of the senior staff were told.
“Both actors were lovely, they signed tons of books and answered lots of questions about the films and their personal lives.
“Ron is the most famous visitor we have had since I have been here.”
