Sutton Coldfield kids left spellbound after surprise visit from Harry Potter stars!

PUPILS at a Birmingham school were left spellbound by the surprise appearance of Harry Potter star Ron Weasley.
There was pandemonium when actor Rupert Grint walked into an assembly at Bishop Walsh Catholic School in Sutton Coldfield yesterday.
The actor, who is so famous he wears a duck mask to avoid being spotted in public, was joined by his screen brother Oliver Phelps, from Sutton, after A-level student Sarah Cotter won a national competition.
Pupils and teachers screamed and cheered as the stars arrived after they were originally told a church leader was visiting.
Sarah said: “It was insane. It was all kept under wraps and none of us knew.
“I was in complete shock, I couldn’t speak. After the question and answer session I went to another room to have a chat and pictures. It was amazing.
“They were both lovely. I don’t remember too much about what we spoke about as it was a bit of a blur, but we chatted about the films.”
The 17-year-old continued: “I entered the competition so long ago that I forgot about it. I just entered my school’s details and answered a question about Ron.
“I love Harry Potter, before the last film was released, we did a 26-hour movie marathon.”
The competition was run by supermarket Sainsbury’s.
As well as the visit, every pupil and staff member received a copy of the DVD of the final instalment of the Potter series, The Deathly Hallows: Part Two.
The school also received 10,000 vouchers, worth £100,000, of Sainsbury’s shopping.
School head John Farrell said: “It was a great day for Bishop Walsh. We are really pleased for Sarah, it was a big shock for her.
“Only a few members of the senior staff were told.
“Both actors were lovely, they signed tons of books and answered lots of questions about the films and their personal lives.
“Ron is the most famous visitor we have had since I have been here.”

Hollywood plans Harry Potter theme park

Harry Potter is going Hollywood with a new theme park based at Universal Studios that  will feature a Hogwarts castle as its centrepiece alongside rollercoasters and other rides.

NBCUniversal and film studio Warner Bros on Dec. 6 unveiled "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter," which will be built at the Universal Studios Hollywood site with attractions that are similar to the money-spinning Potter theme park opened in June 2010 at Universal's resort in Orlando, Florida.

The new theme park could take 3-4 years to construct and is likely to cost several hundred million dollars but will create more than 1,000 jobs and is expected to boost tourism to the Los Angeles area, officials said.

The two companies -- Universal runs the theme parks and Warner Bros. owns the rights to the "Harry Potter" movies -- also said the "Wizarding World" in Florida would be expanded.

Toasting Tuesday's announcement with mugs of "Butterbeer", officials said the Hollywood park will be centred around a huge Hogwarts castle and feature rides and other attractions based on the adventures of the popular British boy wizard and his friends who use sorcery to battle evil.

Author J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" book series have sold some 450 million copies worldwide and the eight movies from the Warner Bros. studios have taken more than $7.7 billion at global box-offices, making the films the largest-grossing franchise in history.

With its "Dragon's Challenge" rollercoaster and life-size model of the Hogwarts Express train, the 20-acre "Wizarding World" park in Orlando has proved a huge success with fans. It drew more than 7 million visitors in its first year and boosted NBCUniversal's theme park revenue by 33 percent to $1.5 billion for the first nine months of 2011, according to company results.

Officials did not say how many of the Florida rides would make their way to the Hollywood park, nor did they say if any new rides were envisaged. But they did say the new attraction would be created with the same commitment to authenticity with the books and movies as the one in Florida.

Warner Bros. chairman Barry Meyer called Tuesday's announcement "probably the best holiday gift we could give to the legions of Harry Potter fans worldwide."

"Everyone involved with these projects is committed to continuing the enchantment of J.K. Rowling's masterful books as they were brought to life on screen in our eight films and dedicated to extending the magic of the experience for generations of fans to come," Meyer said.

The expansion of the Potter franchise follows Walt Disney's Co's announcement in September of a theme park based on the 2009 film "Avatar" -- the highest-grossing single movie in history.

Work on the "Avatar" park is due to begin in 2013 in a section of Disney World in Orlando, with plans for other locations in the future.

Alan Rickman's 'Harry Potter' Performance Deserves An Oscar, Says Daniel Radcliffe

Alan Rickman's 'Harry Potter' Performance Deserves An Oscar, Says Daniel Radcliffe
Daniel Radcliffe has said that Alan Rickman's portrayal of Professor Snape in 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1' is deserving of an Oscar nomination.
Rickman played the duplicitous Snape throughout the 'Potter' franchise, and Radcliffe believes he deserves credit for how he played the role.
He told Entertainment Weekly: "I don't think there is going to be another performance from an actor in a supporting role that is so powerful, where the actor had the challenge of realising a scene that's been realised millions of times the world over in the imaginations of readers.

"That scene - those revelations about Snape's past - represented maybe the most anticipated part of [one of] the most anticipated movies of the past 10 years. I think Alan does amazing, amazing work."
However, Holliwood's traditional reluctance to recognise big franchises come Award season suggests that this may be a plea too far.
It has been announced that a 'Harry Potter' theme park will be opened at Universal's Hollywood Studio.
